About Us

Serving Greater Annapolis, Greater Crownsville, Rolling Knolls, Epping Forest, Sherwood Forest, all of Generals Highway from Parole to near Millersville, and other Anne Arundel County locations

Serving the Community Since 1986

Geneal’s Highway Athletic Association, Inc. is a 501(c)3 all-volunteer non-profit community organization focused on two objectives:

  • To provide group sporting activities for the children of those families living in the greater Annapolis and Crownsville areas; and
  • Environmentally maintaining and beautifying Anne Arundel County’s General Highway Corridor Park.

General’s Highway Athletic Association, and its predecessor organizations (like Rolling Knolls), are over 20 years old, dating back to 1986 as the first year of official operation.  Our organization sponsors a number of sports but is not restricted to a set type or amount and nor is it restricted to athletic activities.  Our organization leadership is always willing to sponsor additional activities that benefit our children, so please bring your ideas to the attention of the General’s Highway Athletic Association officers.

The General’s Highway Athletic Association, Inc. (also sometimes referred to as GHAA) came into existence in 1997.  Prior to this time, there were a number of athletic organizations named after the Rolling Knolls community, including baseball, girls lacrosse, and soccer.  These organizations banded together under the General’s Highway banner in order to better serve the emerging communities along and around MD-178, which is better known as General’s Highway.  The earliest of the Rolling Knolls organizations is girls lacrosse, founded in 1985 with the first season in 1986, and therefore General’s Highway roots go back to this time. General’s Highway is a non-profit organization registered with the State of Maryland and the US Government.  While continuing to solely make sure the lacrosse fields at Rolling Knolls elementary are playable, the organization also works with the Anne Arundel County Recreation & Parks Department to maintain General’s Highway Corridor Park on Crownsville Road.  The lacrosse, soccer and baseball organizations make use of the fields at this location. The first President of General’s Highway was Dale Dandy who also happened to be the Commissioner for Rolling Knolls Baseball at the time.  He was President for at most two years.  Since then we have had several presidents serving the General Highway community. Currently, Mike Hicks is serving as the Generals Highway Athletic Association President. Under his leadership, we are offering Basketball, Baseball, Football, Soccer, Girls Lacrosse and Environmental Projects for Generals Highway.

Our Mission

General’s Highway Athletic Association of Annapolis, Rolling Knolls, and Crownsville exists to instill leadership and promote the concept of teamwork among our children while ensuring all players gain confidence, build skills, play equally and have fun.

Our Facilities

General’s Highway Corridor Park

For baseball, softball, football, lacrosse, and soccer, Corridor Park is our home field.  We also use the Park for the Annapolis Open which we sponsor annually.  We also use the Park for sports practice.

We also act as an environmental steward for the park, taking our role seriously and want to make this a premier facility in the County system.  Please help us do so by keeping the facility tidy and reporting to the County officials or Officers of General’s Highway any untoward or damaging use of the Park.   We also welcome your suggestions on improving the Park and if you have a need for the Park we are here to help you with the County.

Corridor Park is on Crownsville Road across from the Renaissance Festival.  Crownsville Road runs from MD 450 (Defense Highway) to the Crownsville Hospital grounds at MD 178 (General’s Highway).

              Rolling Knolls Elementary School

Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks acts as a facilitator in getting us usage of Rolling Knolls Elementary School indoor and previously, outdoor facilities.  The School is part of Anne Arundel County Department of Public Schools and it is they who have authority over the facility not Recreation and Parks.  We make use of both the indoor facilities as well as the fields outside.

Inside the school we use the Gym for basketball and the Media Center for meetings.  We also use the foyer at times for sport registration activities.  We always endeavor to keep the school clean in the way we found it (or better) while ensuring our young children do not run wild through un-permitted school areas in off-hours while we are running a permitted activity.  This is part of being a good neighbor with the school.

Outside the school we previously used both the upper (Field A) and lower (Field B) fields for girls lacrosse.  This was our home field until 2008 and we also acted as the caretaker in a sense, and had done so since 1986.

Rolling Knolls Elementary School is on Knollwood Road and is visible from MD 178 (General’s Highway) at the intersection with Epping Forest Road.
